1. Who we are
Uncle Jee is operated by Imran Ahmad, the controller responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
Business address: Unit 12, Hainault rd, Leyton, E11 1hd. Email: salaam@unclejee.co.uk.
This policy covers our website and web app, the Uncle Jee Android app, the Uncle Jee iOS app, and our ordering and customer-support services.
2. Information we collect
- Account and contact details such as your name, email address, telephone number, account identifier and authentication information.
- Billing and delivery addresses, products ordered, order values, delivery instructions, transaction references, order history and records of refunds or complaints.
- Customer-service messages, feedback and supporting information you choose to send, including photographs.
- Technical information needed to operate and protect the Services, including IP address, browser and device information, operating system, app version, access times, authentication records and relevant error or security logs.
- Privacy choices, marketing preferences, consent records and, if enabled, a device notification token.
3. Payments through Stripe
We use Stripe to process payments and refunds. Stripe processes payment details and relevant transaction, billing and technical information.
Our payment setup is designed so that full card numbers and card security codes are handled by Stripe rather than stored in Uncle Jee systems.
Please do not send card numbers or security codes to us by email.
4. Where information comes from
- Directly from you when you register, order or communicate with us.
- Through the operation of our website and apps.
- From Stripe in connection with payments, refunds and payment checks.
- From delivery partners concerning delivery progress and completion.
- From another customer who purchases a delivery for you.
5. How and why we use information
- To create and manage your account and to process orders, payments, deliveries and refunds — generally to perform our contract with you.
- To send receipts, delivery updates and other necessary service messages.
- To respond to pre-purchase enquiries, order-related enquiries and complaints.
- To secure our Services, investigate suspected fraud, diagnose faults and maintain reliable Services — where our legitimate interests apply.
- To keep required financial records and meet legal duties.
- To send optional marketing only where we have the required consent.
6. App permissions and device access
We ask for device permission where required before sending push notifications. Enabling notifications does not automatically subscribe you to marketing.
If you choose to send a photograph to customer support, we use it to investigate and resolve your enquiry. We do not require general access to your photo library to let you shop.
We use the delivery address you provide to fulfil orders. We do not collect precise GPS location or track your location in the background.
We do not access your contacts, microphone, health data or biometric information.
7. Cookies and similar technologies
Our website and apps use essential cookies, local storage and similar technologies for functions such as keeping you signed in, maintaining your basket, processing payments, protecting accounts and remembering privacy choices.
We do not use third-party advertising trackers or track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites for targeted advertising.
If we introduce optional analytics or other non-essential tracking, we will explain it before asking for consent where consent is required.
8. Marketing choices
We send promotional emails, text messages or push notifications only when you have opted in to the relevant channel.
If you choose Brown Bread marketing, we may use your email address to tell you about Brown Bread apps, services and offers. This choice is optional and is separate from creating or using your Uncle Jee account.
You can withdraw consent through the unsubscribe or opt-out route provided, through available account preferences, or by emailing salaam@unclejee.co.uk.
Opting out of marketing does not stop necessary service messages such as receipts, delivery updates, security notices or product-safety communications.
9. Brown Bread account details
Uncle Jee is part of the Brown Bread family. Where Brown Bread services are operated by the same controller, your email address and mobile number may be reused across services you choose to use so you do not have to enter those details again.
We do not automatically enrol you into other Brown Bread services, and Uncle Jee delivery addresses, order history, payment information and other service-specific data are not shared simply because you have an Uncle Jee account.
We never sell your personal information or provide it to unrelated companies for their own marketing.
10. Who we share information with
- Stripe for payments, refunds and related payment checks.
- Delivery and fulfilment partners to prepare and deliver orders.
- Hosting, database and IT service providers to operate and maintain our Services.
- Communication and customer-support providers where they help us deliver messages or manage enquiries.
- Professional advisers, regulators, public authorities or other parties where required by law or needed to protect legal rights.
11. Apple, Google and external services
Apple and Google process information relating to their app stores, devices and platform services under their own privacy policies.
Downloading Uncle Jee does not give us access to all the information in your Apple or Google account.
12. International processing
Some service providers, including Stripe, operate internationally. Your information may therefore be processed outside the UK.
Where international transfer rules apply, we ensure that an appropriate transfer mechanism is in place.
13. How long we keep information
- Account profile and saved addresses: while the account is active; accounts inactive for three years are reviewed for deletion, with advance notice where practical.
- Order, invoice, payment and refund records: normally six years after the end of the financial year in which the transaction occurred.
- Routine customer-service correspondence: up to two years after the enquiry closes.
- Photographs supplied for routine support enquiries: normally up to 90 days after the enquiry closes.
- Routine technical and diagnostic logs: up to 90 days.
- Security and fraud-investigation records: up to 12 months after the incident or investigation closes, unless a longer period is justified.
- Deleted information in backups: removed through the backup rotation cycle within 90 days.
14. Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account through Your details when signed in, or submit a deletion request through our Data deletion page if you cannot use self-service.
Deletion applies to your shared Uncle Jee account across the web app, Android app and iOS app.
We normally complete deletion requests within one month and explain any lawful extension. Information is deleted unless we have a valid reason to retain particular records.
Uninstalling the app does not delete your account, and account deletion does not automatically cancel an outstanding order.
15. Sensitive information
We do not ask you to create a health or religious profile, and we do not infer your religion or health status from the products you view or purchase.
We do not use health information for advertising or product targeting.
16. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including secure connections, access restrictions, secure authentication, software maintenance and checks on service providers.
No online service can guarantee complete security. If a personal data breach occurs, we will investigate and notify affected people and the relevant regulator where legally required.
17. Automated checks
Payments may undergo automated fraud and security checks by Stripe, payment networks or your bank.
We do not use your shopping history to infer sensitive characteristics or make automated decisions about your eligibility for our products.
18. Your rights
- Ask for access to your personal information.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Ask for deletion or restriction where the law gives you that right.
- Ask for certain information in a portable format.
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests where applicable.
- Withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent.
- Object unconditionally to direct marketing.
19. Children
Our purchasing services are intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly create customer accounts for children or direct marketing to them.
20. Complaints
Please send privacy complaints to salaam@unclejee.co.uk. We will investigate and explain our response.
You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. You do not have to contact us before approaching the ICO.
21. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our Services, practices or legal obligations change. The current version will be available through our website and apps.
If a new use requires consent, we will ask before starting that activity.
